About Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna
Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna is an 88-bed, not for profit facility operated by Adventist Health System (AHS) as a joint venture with Emory Healthcare. The hospital was founded in the early 1970's when a group of physicians recognized a need for a hospital in Smyrna. On June 3, 1974 the hospital (then known as Smyrna Hospital) admitted its first patient. Adventist Health System purchased the hospital in 1976 and it became the first health-care institution in the Atlanta area to be affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Adventist Health System owns and manages hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies and health care systems and an array of other services. With 37 hospitals located across the United States, Adventist Health System is the largest not-for-profit Protestant hospital system in the country.
Along with the benefits of association with Emory University and the recognized excellence of the South's leading tertiary care hospital, the joint venture makes it possible for the shared mission of the hospitals to succeed. Emory-Adventist Hospital at Smyrna is a Christian facility, which cares for the needs of the whole person-body, mind and spirit. Commitment to the hospital's faith-based mission ensures that the business of medicine works hand in hand with the art of caring.
